The Great Shuffle

With 40+ parrots in the house at any given time, we always have a surplus of cages. Some cages are in storage for use with future babies who must learn how to navigate a “wire world” before being sent to new homes. Those cages are sensible to have in storage because there is a guaranteed […]

So far, all good!

I woke up Heidi, and coaxed her out of her nestbox:  all three chicks were cuddled together, wriggling!  They have dark eyes, which indicates there won’t be any Lutino among them.  I suspect, therefore, the chicks likely will be turquoise (a.k.a. marine) and olive. It is so exciting when the feathers come in!  At first, […]

Double Take!

I have “double trouble” in Heidi’s nestbox… another egg has hatched!  Isn’t Mother Nature amazing?  The hen lays her eggs one each day, often skipping a day or two in between.  When the eggs hatch in natural succession, the chicks show themselves in the same order, with the same spacing as that in which they […]

Counting Chicks

Nigel and Heidi created two wonderful Linnie families for me, last year.  Last year, their clutches were four eggs (resulting in four chicks), each time. Nigel is a true gentleman while his lady is in waiting.  Heidi is a devoted momma, hardly leaving her eggs in a 24-hour period.  However, whenever I have been able to peek, […]

Eggstatic!

Spring is HERE!  Linnies Heidi and Nigel have eggs… two, so far.  Hooray!  This pair produced lots of lovely chicks, last year, including a lutino hen.  I am hoping for several little surprises in several weeks from now. Happy Easter!  Enjoy your weekend with family and friends.

Conure Eggs

One of the main things bird breeding has taught me, is the art of PATIENCE.  After excitedly anticipating the arrival of Roxie’s six chicks, I am disappointed to report that the eggs are infertile.  While this is not surprising, given it’s her first clutch, it is nevertheless a bit sad.  However, I am very encouraged […]

Eggcellent News!

The days are longer and brighter and my birds know it! Roxie and Ricky are very proud of their three Conure eggs!  Yellowside/Cinnamon chicks are expected. Clair and Nathan keep peeking out of their nestbox to brag to the rest of the Linnie crew about their big plans for a big family.  Cobalt and marine […]

Happy New Year!

It’s not that I don’t like the holiday season, because I do.  It’s just that I love December 21st more than the 25th, which is when the daylight, ever so slightly, begins to  lengthen!  Spring is coming!  By my daughter’s birthday in January, the birds sense it and I am seeing micro-mini bits of chewed […]
